Officials with the Maine DOT rolled out their 3-year, $2.5 billion work plan on Tuesday.

It calls for nearly 150 bridge projects and about 170 miles of highway construction across the state.

The plan includes more than 70 individual projects in Portland alone, including the nearly $18 million Veranda Street bridge project.

DOT officials say their ability to tackle all the projects they would like to is being hindered but funding issues, as they face a $232 million budget shortfall.

On the WGAN Morning News Wednesday, the DOT’s Paul Merrill explained what the shortfall means for his agency and how it affects drivers in Maine. Click here to listen to the complete interview.
