The Maine Republican Party is collecting signatures to block the use of ranked-choice voting in November’s presidential election.

More than 63,600 voter signatures must be collected by June 15 to force a people’s veto vote on the issue.

Petitioners collecting voter signatures have been granted essential worker status under an agreement with the Department of Economic and Community Development.

Republican leaders say signature gatherers set up at a business or a public location. They say the party sends out emails and text messages letting people know where they are, urging them to come sign a petition.
