A Mainer has tested positive for West Nile virus.

The Maine CDC says this is the first locally-acquired case of the mosquito-borne illness in Maine since 2020. The case was detected in a Cumberland County resident in their 40s.

The Maine CDC says the positive test result is presumptive as they wait for confirmation from the U.S. CDC.

This is the second case of West Nile detected in Maine this year.
