AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Governor Janet Mills says her administration is making a $20 million investment to allow the state’s farmers and food processors to upgrade equipment.

The governor’s administration made the announcement Monday. The $20 million comes from the Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan, which itself makes use of $1 billion in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.

The Agricultural Infrastructure Investment Program will provide grants to Maine farms and food processing businesses. It aims to “increase production and storage capacity, enhance supply chain resilience, and drive growth within the state’s agricultural and food economy while enhancing production of Maine-grown foods.”

The state will begin accepting applications for those grants next month.
