Maine is adding another tool in it’s arsenal to try to combat drug overdoses.

The state says that the newly-launched “SPIKE Auto Text Program” will notify you when there are three or more overdoses in your county within a 24 hour period.

It’s aimed at linking people to services through the state’s OPTIONS initiative. The program sets out to provide mobile response teams in areas with high numbers of overdoses, promote harm reduction strategies, connect people with support services, and distribute naloxone, a medication which can be used to quickly reverse an overdose and save lives.

You can sign up for the text program by texting the word “SPIKE” to 1-(855)-963-5669.
