AUGSUTA, Maine (AP) Maine lawmakers are moving forward on a $37 million spending package tackling issues including the opioid crisis.
The Legislature’s appropriations and financial affairs committee moved unanimously Monday to send the package to lawmakers. The panel previously moved forward on a $26 million package, including reimbursement for personal care aides.
Lawmakers were at an impasse because Democrats wanted to include Medicaid expansion start-up funding in a spending deal. Democratic Rep. Drew Gattine said he wants lawmakers to consider that bill separately.
House Speaker Sara Gideon’s spokeswoman says this week she’ll start asking Democrats about returning to Augusta.
Lawmakers face looming deadlines to prevent pay cuts for personal aides. Lawmakers have until late August to send bonds to voters. Lawmakers are also trying to strike a deal on tax reform.
