AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Democratic House Speaker Sara Gideon and Republican Senate President Michael Thibodeau are calling lawmakers back to Augusta to deal with vetoes.

Lawmakers will return to work on Wednesday, May 2. Democrats had said they could use the day for pending bills.

But Republican Senate spokeswoman Krysta West said there are no plans to deal with unfinished business like school funding, tax conformity or Medicaid expansion funding. Lawmakers can only tie up such loose ends if called in for another day by the governor or legislative leaders.

Lawmakers will consider Republican Gov. Paul LePage’s vetoes of bills including access to an overdose-reversing medication and a $2.2 million child abuse prevention program.

LePage has said he’ll veto a bill allowing pot sales.

A two-thirds majority in both chambers is needed to override vetoes.
