A group of Maine lawyers is gathering in front of the Cumberland County Courthouse tomorrow to rally in opposition to what they call attempts by the government to intimidate, impeach, bully, and penalize judges, lawyers, and law firms.

State Attorney General Aaron Frey, Maine State Bar Association President Susan Faunce and former Maine Supreme Court Chief Justice Daniel Wathen will speak at the event.

The gathering takes place 12 noon – 1 PM at Lincoln Park in Portland.

It comes as President Trump’s administration has not complied with a number of federal court decisions and arrested a judge in Wisconsin last Friday.

The rally is supported by the Maine State Bar Association, Maine Lawyers for the Rule of Law, and Lawyers for Good Governance.

A new release from the groups says there’ll be a formal announcement that 633 Maine lawyers and 100 Maine law firms have signed a Declaration urging all Maine lawyers to stand united in support of the fundamental principles of our legal system.
