A man accused of fatally shooting a couple in front of their children in Westbrook pleaded guilty to murder in court on Monday.

Marcel Lagrange Jr. is accused of shooting and killing Brittney Cockrell and Michael Hayter in a parking lot in Westbrook in June of 2023.

There was no known connection between Lagrange and the victims.

Police said the couple’s two children, ages 11 and 7 at the time, witnessed the killings, with Lagrange later injuring a 75-year-old Westbrook man during a chase with police.

Lagrange was eventually tackled by a bystander and held down by a crowd before he was taken into custody.

Lagrange pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of murder, one count of aggravated attempted murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and one count of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

His sentencing date has not been announced.
