A Lewiston man sentenced to 47 years behind bars for killing the mother of his child is looking to appeal his sentence and murder conviction to the Maine Supreme Court.

According to CBS 13 News, justices heard oral arguments on Wednesday. 26-year-old Jaquille Coleman was found guilty by a jury in November of 2022 for the murder of his girlfriend, 19-year-old Natasha Morgan, who was shot and killed in front of her mother and her child.

Coleman is arguing that the trial court made errors, including admitting evidence showing that Morgan feared for her safety in the days leading up to her death.
