Nurses at Maine’s largest hospital have voted to retain their union.

Two days of voting concluded Thursday night for nurses at Maine Medical Center.

They voted overwhelmingly to keep the Maine State Nurses Association and National Nurses United as their collective bargaining representative.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the election results will need to be certified by the National Labor Relations Board.

A petition to decertify the union was circulated by Maine Med nurse Devin Brooks.

It was signed by more than 500 nurses, setting the stage for the vote.

Nurses voted in April 2021 to form the union.

Negotiations between Maine Med and union representatives began the following August, but the two sides have yet to reach their first agreement on a contract.
