Maine Medical Center announced visitor restrictions as they deal with a surge of COVID-19 patients. There are plenty of exceptions; some of which allow two parent/guardian visitors per day for children in the emergency room and when babies are being born.
Adult patients in ambulatory or diagnostic areas should who can walk and communicate are asked to be dropped off and picked up for their services. You may be allowed to accompany them if they have mobility or communication issues however.
COVID-19 patients will only be allowed visitors for end of life care and other end of life visitation “will be managed by the care team”.
Jeff Sanders, president of Maine Medical Center told WMTW-TV “We recognize that visitors play an important role in a patient’s care and well-being; however, the current environment demands that we take these steps to protect our patients and care team members.”
Visitor polices at medical facilities around the state have widely varying visitor polices in place. Some facilities are back to allowing unrestricted visitation while others, including Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook have not allowed visitors pretty much at all since the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2020.
