A mother who recently pleaded guilty in the death of her newborn daughter decades ago was sentenced to six years behind bars on Tuesday.
Police arrested Lee Ann Daigle of Lowell, Massachusetts in June 2022 and originally charged her with murder. In April, she pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
In December 1985, the body of Baby Jane Doe was found in Frenchville by a dog, which brought the baby back to its home. Detectives tracked the dog’s path to a gravel pit, where the woman gave birth to the girl and abandoned her in sub-zero temperatures.
Police credited the arrest to the decades of work by dozens of current and retired detectives, as well as advancements in DNA technology and genealogy.
Daigle was sentenced to 16 years behind bars with all but 6 suspended, as well as 3 years of probation.
