WARREN, Maine (AP) Authorities say a Maine prisoner serving a life sentence for murder has been found dead.

The state Department of Corrections says 70-year-old Ashton Moores died just before 10 p.m. Thursday at Maine State Prison in Warren. The department did not release any information about the cause of Moores’ death.

The notification of state police and the attorney general are in line with state protocols for when an inmate dies. Moores was serving multiple sentences, including the life sentence, and a 20-year sentence for gross sexual assault. He began serving his sentences in January 2009.

Moores was convicted of killing 43-year-old Christina Simonin in the apartment they shared in 2007.
