HOULTON, Maine (AP)   Maine’s agricultural fair season is about to get started with the Houlton Fair in far northern Maine.

The agriculture fair season in Maine touches all parts of the state and stretches from late June to early October. Some of the most popular fairs include the Bangor State Fair and the Fryeburg Fair, which closes out the season.

The Houlton Fair runs from Saturday until July 4. It includes livestock shows and a demolition derby. It takes place at Community Park in Houlton, about three miles from the border with Canada.

Maine agricultural fairs draw tens of thousands of visitors over the course of the season. They’re promoted heavily by the state Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
