New COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Maine, where 65 additional infections were reported by public health officials Wednesday. The Maine CDC also announced one additional death.

The report Wednesday morning came as state agencies were reviewing new federal coronavirus guidance. The U.S. CDC on Tuesday recommended that Americans wear masks in public indoor settings in areas where coronavirus transmission is high. Gov. Janet Mills was expected to announce any possible changes to state guidance on Wednesday.

The seven-day rolling average of daily new cases in Maine has risen over the past two weeks from 23.43 new cases a day on July 12 to 64.29 new cases a day on Monday. The seven-day rolling average of daily deaths in Maine has risen over the past two weeks from 0.29 deaths a day on July 12 to 2.29 deaths a day Monday.

The AP is using data collected by Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering to measure outbreak caseloads and deaths across the United States.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday there have been more than 70,000 cases of the virus in the state since the start of the pandemic. There have also been 899 deaths.

About 60 percent of the state is fully vaccinated against coronavirus.
