Maine reports nine new COVID-19 deaths, 961 more cases

The latest numbers released Saturday add 961 new cases to the states total of COVID-19 cases and 9 new deaths (mostly from past record reviews).  There was a reported 205 people in the hospital either from or due 100 percent to COVID-19 one more than yesterday.  36 among the 205 are in critical care and 4 on ventilators.

The Maine CDC has now classified Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Aroostook counties in the red, high transmission areas recommending masks in indoor public places .  Seven counties – York, Kennebec, Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, Waldo and Washington – are listed in the “yellow” category, meaning they have moderate levels of transmission.

Androscoggin is the only county in Maine that has retained its “green” status, signifying low levels of transmission despite having a low vaccination rate of 66.78 percent.  Cumberland County has the highest vaccination rate of any county in Maine
