The school board director in Kennebunk-based RSU 21 has submitted his resignation.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Ryan McQueen was elected unopposed to a partial term in June.

He had come under fire because of his comments on social media.

The school board and superintendent issued a statement Tuesday afternoon.

The statement said, “the posts on Twitter were hateful toward transgender people, people of color, and women.”
