BUXTON, Maine (AP) Schools in Maine that closed in the wake of social media threats planned to reopen on Friday.

The schools are located in Portland and the Buxton area. They closed on Thursday due to threats on the social media platform Snapchat.

Officials at the schools said they planned to be vigilant about school security on Friday but open as normal, the Portland Press Herald reported. The local sheriff’s office has been investigating the threats.

The threat caused Portland High School to go into remote learning mode on Thursday. A high school in Old Town also closed on Thursday due to a threat, but the school district’s superintendent said it did not appear related to the threats in southern Maine and was not made via social media.
