More than 2,500 cases of coronavirus and 108 outbreaks have been reported across Maine’s K-12 schools over the last 30 days.

On Thursday, the Maine Department of Education said there were 2,578 cases detected over the past month.

In last week’s update, 2,080 cases and 72 outbreaks were reported.

The largest outbreak so far was at Hermon High School, which has seen 40 cases of the virus.

Maine education leaders have faced challenges as they continue working to keep students in the classroom full-time this year, even as the delta variant complicates those efforts.

With children under 12 still not eligible for a vaccine, many schools are relying on pooled coronavirus testing of students and staff to prevent outbreaks.
