PORTLAND, Maine (AP)   Maine Sen. Angus King is calling on the U.S. Department of Labor to release a report about proposed rules that would allow employers to create “tip pools” for tipped workers.

King, an independent, says the report is a federal cost-benefit analysis of the proposal that would authorize employers to create such pools at businesses like restaurants, which have tipped and non-tipped workers. King says the rulemaking process would be flawed if the labor department doesn’t release the analysis so the public can comment on it.

King says the public comment period on the proposal should also be reopened. He says he’s concerned that tipped workers in Maine could lose millions of dollars per year under the proposed rules.
