Maine State Police close down interstate briefly due to two separate incidents

Two incidents briefly shut down traffic on I-95 on Tuesday morning.

Maine State Police say a crash happened around 7:30 a.m. in Waterville near the southbound on-ramp by exit 130. Police say 29-year-old Kevin Swift of Whitefield struck another vehicle, causing a third vehicle to stop and block the path of a tractor-trailer, whose driver narrowly avoided it by maneuvering into the median.

Police say Swift is charged with Operating After Suspension and Driving to Endanger.

Around the same time, police responded to a car fire near mile 119 northbound. The driver managed to get out safely, but there were several small explosions due to ammunition being stored in the vehicle. The car was destroyed, and the interstate was shut down briefly.
