State Police responded to two separate instances of explosives being discovered inside Mainer’s homes yesterday afternoon.

The first incident occurred in Bowdoinham at around 2:30 PM, when a person found  an apparent mortar round on their property on White Road. Members of the bomb squad identified it as an 81MM M374 mortar round and found that it was potentially hazardous.

An hour later, authorities were called to a home on Main Street in Winslow, where someone cleaning out their home had found a MK2 hand grenade dating back to WWII or the Korean war era.

Both the mortar and the grenade were safely removed and either disarmed or destroyed.

This follows a similar incident this past week where a Limington woman found a grenade on a private road, which State Police countercharged out of caution.
