Maine State Police say they issued well over 100 tickets in a single day during this month’s New England Drive to Save Lives campaign.

State Police say they focused on reducing crashes and fatalities through stepped up speed enforcement and increased attention to work zone safety during the effort.

Troopers say they issued 115 tickets and 32 warnings in the single day campaign spanning the entire Maine Turnpike, from Kittery to Augusta.

The citations were issued for speeding, distracted driving and seat belt violations among other offenses.

“This exercise was never about catching drivers speeding — it’s about real‑scenario education and awareness, and a plea to the public to slow down in work zones, especially when road crews are present,” said Maine Turnpike Authority Executive Director Andre Briere.

During the enforcement period, an MTA road crew conducted a temporary lane closure for a guardrail repair between Mile 19 and Mile 23. The active work zone speed limit was posted at 60 miles per hour.

The high‑visibility traffic enforcement campaign was conducted through a partnership between Maine State Police, the Maine Turnpike Authority and the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.

The regional New England Drive to Save Lives campaign continues through July 31.
