A teenager from Maine died when the hole he was digging on a New Jersey beach collapsed on him.

Police in Toms River, on the Jersey Shore, say 18-year-old Levi Caverly and his 17-year-old sister were digging the hole with frisbees when the hole collapsed, trapping them both.

Multiple police and EMS units were called to the beach just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The sister received treatment after she was rescued by first responders, but her brother, who was from Unity, died in the collapse.

Police say the teen was crushed.

The family went to the beach while visiting the area.
