Bay Ferries reports an increase in ticket sales from last year for its ferry that brings tourists from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The sales, however, are well under Nova Scotia’s initial goal for the ferry line.

The company says their CAT high speed ferry linking the Canadian province to Maine, has sold 34,542 tickets through August 10, an increase of 2,864 from this time last year.

According to Maine Public, Nova Scotia’s government is conducting an economic study to determine if the ferry line is worth the tourism revenue.

Nova Scotia’s premier, Tim Houston said last year that he was disappointed in the ferry’s ticket sales, which came to about 35,000 on Sept. 1, and was well under the province’s initial target of 60,000 tickets per season.

Nova Scotia paid around $18 million CAD in subsidy to the ferry service last year.
