Maine’s defense industry will see $3.6 billion as part of the National Defense Authorization Act passed by Congress on Thursday.

Maine’s share of the $883 billion spending bill will go toward building new destroyers, components for jet engines, defense research, education and other military equipment.

Sen. Angus King says Bath Iron Works will have the opportunity to bid for the construction of two new Arleigh-Burke class destroyers, with the possibility of additional funding for a third.

Companies like Pratt & Whitney in North Berwick and Hunting Dearborn in Fryeburg will also benefit from the funding.
