AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine labor officials say the unemployment rate rose slightly again in June.

The unemployment rate rose to 2.9 percent last month, up from 2.8 percent in May and 2.7 percent in April and March. The unemployment rate also represents a drop from 3.5 percent a year ago, and the number of unemployed people fell by 3,900 over the course of the year.

The Maine Department of Labor has said the state is riding a streak in which the unemployment rate has been below 4 percent for more than 30 straight months.

Maine’s unemployment rate was lower than the nationwide rate of 4 percent, which was up from 3.8 percent in May. The New England rate was 3.6 percent, with the lowest rate in New Hampshire at 2.7 percent.
