Maine woman convicted in 10-year-old daughter’s killing sentenced to 48 years

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) A Maine judge has sentenced a woman who was convicted of murdering her 10-year-old daughter to 48 years behind bars.

Sharon Carrillo was convicted in the death of Marissa Kennedy, and was sentenced by a judge on Friday afternoon.

Marissa’s battered body was found in the family home in Stockton Springs in 2018. The case led to changes in the state’s child protection system.

Carrillo was found guilty of depraved indifference murder in December. According to CBS 13 news, the judge said a life sentence was not appropriate, given Carrillo’s intellectual disability and lack of a criminal record.

Carrillo’s estranged husband, Julio Carrillo, pleaded guilty to murder earlier and is serving a 55-year sentence.
