Mainers to Celebrate Maple Syrup on First Sunday of Spring

SUMNER, Maine (AP) Sugary amber is set to flow like wine amid the maple trees of Maine, only much, much slower.

Sunday is Maple Syrup Sunday all over the state. It’s a day for sugarhouses to open their doors to the public so they can see how maple syrup is made, and many offer free samples as well as demonstrations. Thousands are expected at Kinney’s Sugarhouse in Knox when Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins visits.

The event, promoted by the Maine Maple Producers Association, always takes place on the fourth Sunday of March, though some producers hold events on Saturday, too.

Participants include producers from Lebanon in far southern Maine to Eagle Lake at the state’s northern ed
