An air quality alert for all of Maine is in effect as smoke from a wildfire out west moves across the nation.

Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection said all of Maine was in the Moderate category for particle pollutants Tuesday, with smoke from a massive wildfire in Oregon expected to reach the ground in Maine overnight.

The Maine DEP says sensitive people should try to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.

The agency’s forecast for Wednesday shows a return to normal air quality in the state.
