Maine’s airports to receive millions for improvements

U.S. Senator Susan Collins says Maine’s airports have received more than $14 million for improvements.

The senator’s office said Tuesday that airports in the state have gotten $14,482,668 through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Improvement Program.

Robert Lafluer Airport in Waterville received the biggest chunk of that money, getting $5,700,000 to reconstruct it’s taxiway and airport lighting vault.

Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport also received $2.2 million to rehabilitate it’s taxiway. Other airports on the list include Dexter Regional, Presque Isle International Airport, and Sugarloaf Regional Airport.

Maine’s busiest airport, Portland International Jetport, was not on the list.

$600,000 also went to the state to help update it’s system plan.

Collins, a member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, has touted her work in securing $3.75 billion for the AIP for the 2021 fiscal year.
