High school athletes will be allowed to compete and practice outdoors mask-free after the state updated its guidance related to outdoor mask wearing.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the Maine Principals’ Association aligns its policies with the state’s community sports guidelines. In Wednesday’s announcement, the MPA said masks are recommended when 6 feet of physical distance is hard to maintain, such as for athletes on the bench. Masks or face coverings are also still required in the locker room or on a bus.

Spectators will not be required to wear masks as long as social distancing is maintained.
