AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine’s Republican governor has begun his last year in office with a focus on finishing up a to-do list of conservative policies that he says are in the Maine people’s interest.

Gov. Paul LePage has gone months without the personal jabs against lawmakers and headline-grabbing gaffes that’ve marked his term.

That could change Tuesday, when he delivers his annual State of the State address.

LePage said his priorities include taxing conservation land owned by trusts and reforming the foreclosure process to help the elderly stay in their homes.

His recent wins include repeal of a 3 percent surtax on high earners, and signs of federal support for his plan to institute work requirements for certain Medicaid recipients.

LePage faces legal challenges from critics who say he’s overstepping his gubernatorial authority.
