Maine’s Secretary of State Shenna Bellows is worried about the new text message phishing scam occurring across the country.

Bellows spoke with Matt Gagnon of the WGAN Morning News Wednesday. She told listeners what to watch out for, saying that “anytime you get a text message request that’s asking for personal information or asking you to click on a link, it’s probably spam.”

To combat the scam, Bellows recommends not replying to the phishing texts but to forward that text to 7726, which is a spam reporting service for mobile providers.
