Man accepts plea deal in Portland killing

A 24-year-old man pleaded guilty in the April 2022 killing of a man in Portland on Tuesday.

According to the Portland Press Herald, a 12-member jury reached a decision in the case Tuesday, but the public will never know the verdict.

That after Damion Butterfield pleaded guilty at the last minute to murder, aggravated attempted murder, robbery and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

The Press Herald reports that Butterfield took a plea deal and agreed to serve 35 years in prison.

He had faced 25 years to life on the murder charge in the shooting death of Derald Coffin on Woodford Street.

Butterfield was one of four men charged in connection with what police said was a robbery that turned deadly.
