Man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in South Berwick charged with murder

A South Berwick man is charged with murder for the death of his girlfriend over the weekend

Police were called to a report of a domestic dispute with shots fired on Brattle Street on Saturday night.

43-year-old Jeremiah Godfrey told dispatchers he had been in an argument with his girlfriend, 37-year-old Sherri Sweet, with Sweet succumbing to a gunshot wound after being taken to the hospital.

Godfrey was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday and is now being held at York County Jail.
