A man accused of shooting and killing his longtime girlfriend in Carrabassett Valley this week will remain held without bail after his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Austin Doucette is charged with the murder of 23-year-old Michaela Rose DeSantis.

He was arrested Monday night as he sped away from the Left Bank condo building in Carrabassett Valley, where the murder reportedly took place.

Doucette allegedly told police the shooting was accidental.

Doucette and DeSantis are originally from Connecticut and were both working at the Sugarloaf ski resort.

Desantis’ sister created a GoFundMe to help raise funds for funeral and burial costs.
