Man accused of killing Westbrook couple made violent threats long before deadly shooting, court records show

Court records have revealed new information about a man accused of gunning down two people in a Westbrook parking lot Monday night, including mental illness and a long history of making violent threats.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Marcel Lagrange was not required to enter a plea when he appeared remotely in Cumberland County Superior Court Wednesday.

The 24-year-old is charged with two counts of intentional or knowing murder in the shooting deaths of 37-year-old Brittney Cockrell and 41-year-old Michael Hayter, who were killed in front of their two young children.

According to court records, he told juvenile corrections workers in 2018 that he wanted to kill innocent people and go on a shooting spree.
