Judge sets bail at $1M for man who shot Maine police officer

SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) A judge has set bail at $1 million for a man accused of shooting a police officer and leading several law enforcement agencies on a wild chase in which more shots were fired in Maine.

Richard Murray-Burns was returned to the Somerset County Jail after making his initial court appearance Thursday in Skowhegan on a charge of aggravated attempted murder. Murray-Burns was arrested the day before, upon his release from a hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds.

A Waterville police officer shot in both arms is recovering at home.
