Man Arrested for Operating Meth Lab on Verona Island

VERONA ISLAND, Maine (WGAN)  The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says three people have been charged after a meth lab was found on Verona Island.

Drug agents say 27-year-old Craig Kneeland was charged with aggravated operation of a methamphetamine laboratory and violation of conditions of release.

Additionally, 28-year-old Jami Cass and 22-year-old Chandler Levesque from Bucksport were charged with endangering the welfare of a child as a result of the investigation.

MDEA agents say they learned Tuesday that there had been a fire at Kneeland’s Bridges Road mobile home, though the fire department was never called.  The making of meth can be highly flammable, according to drug agents.

Agents say Kneeland was sharing the home with Cass and Levesque, who are parents of a five-year-old child, who was also living in the home.

Agents found Kneeland early Tuesday afternoon at a local hardware store, where he was buying ingredients to make meth.

A search of his home found methamphetamine, ingredients to make the drugs and a loaded .357 handgun.  An MDEA lab team called in found 33 plastic bottles being used to make the drug.

Police say Kneeland also had five outstanding warrants for his arrest for crimes ranging from operating under suspension to possession of methamphetamine to trafficking in prison contraband.
