Man arrested in New Gloucester after reports he terrorized volunteers while on a motorcycle, saying he’s a police officer

NEW GLOUCESTER  (WGAN) – The Cumberland County Sheriff’s office along with the Maine State Police arrested a man they say was causing a disturbance with volunteers cleaning the athletic fields near the Memorial School on Intervale Road in New Gloucester on Saturday morning.

Police received the call saying a man was riding a motorcycle and displaying a badge announcing himself as a police officer.  The suspect had fled the area when police arrived.  Deputies along with a Maine State Trooper later located a man in the woods matching the description of the suspect.  The motorcycle he was operating was stuck in the mud on a trail behind Memorial School.

The man was arrested and identified as 31-year-old Brian Lavigne of New Gloucester.  He is being charged with Impersonating a public servant, terrorizing and violating conditions of release.  Brain was on four sets of bail conditions for previous charges.  He is being held at the Cumberland County jail.

Police said they are aware of social media posts regarding similar incidents in the area.  They are investigating if this incident is connected to any others.  If you have any information you are asked to contact the Cumberland County Sheriff at 207-774-1444.
