Man attempts to steal SUV, beating owner with Bible

BANGOR (WGME) — A Bangor man is in custody after beating a man with a Bible trying to steal a car.

27- year-old Benjamin Parker has been charged by police with robbery and assault on Sunday.

According to BDN, the victim pulled over on West Broadway in Bangor to take pictures. As he left the vehicle, Parker allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat, trying to steal it.

The victim attempted to stop the robbery as Parker fended him off with a Bible that had been in the car.

Parker then reportedly ran off, only to later be picked up behind a house on Cedar Street. They also recovered the Bible used in the assault.

Parker has been taken to Penobscot County Jail, being held on a $900 cash bail.
