(WALES, Maine)   State Police say a man was shot and killed early this morning in an armed confrontation with a State Trooper in the Androscoggin County Town of Wales.

Police say they were called to the home on Route 132 Sunday night after a domestic violence incident in which a shot had been fired at a woman.  She was not injured.

State Police negotiators and members of the tactical team responded to the home and attempted to make contact with the man for several hours.

At about 3:30 a.m. there was an armed confrontation and the man was shot and killed by a member of the tactical team.  No police officers were injured.

As is standard in all police involved shootings, the Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident.

The names of the dead man and the trooper are likely to be released later today.

Route 132 has been closed most of the night and remains closed at this hour with detours diverting traffic around the scene.
