A former star athlete from Cheverus High School has been identified as the individual who was killed in a wreck in Gorham Sunday morning.

The Portland Press Herald reports that 20-year-old Zeb Leavitt of Newfield died at the scene of the crash on Harding Bridge Road.

Leavitt played in the 2018 Lobster Bowl, an all-star game for high school football players following their senior season.

As a wrestler in 2017, he won the Class A heavyweight division championship.

The 6-4, 285-pound Leavitt was described by one of his former teammates as a “gentle giant.”

Leavitt died after his vehicle struck a tree.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
