Police have released the identity of the man who was killed in a motorcycle accident in South Portland Monday night.

In a press release Wednesday morning, police said the man who died in the wreck on Broadway was 52-year-old Robert Hawkins of South Portland, a retired Portland police officer and U.S. Marine.

A 35-year-old South Portland woman who was a passenger on the bike was still in the hospital Wednesday morning, but she had been upgraded to stable condition.

Police say the motorcycle collided with a car operated by 26-year-old Ahmed Maadi of Portland.

The release said Maadi has been cited for a moving traffic violation, but no further details were release.

Police said it doesn’t appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident. The crash remains under investigation.
