Man shot and killed by police during armed confrontation in Lincoln County

Police say a man was shot and killed during an armed confrontation with officers early Friday morning in the town of Jefferson.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the man was shot after police responded to a report of an assault at a home on Rockland Road around 12:30 a.m.

Police said deputies went into the home after they witnessed an assault between a man and a woman, which led to the man being fatally shot.

The Attorney General’s Office is investigating which is standard in all police-involved shootings. Further details have not been released.
