Many Maine homes and businesses remained without power Wednesday as crews worked to restore service to residents who lost electricity during a storm that pummeled the state with heavy rain and high winds on Monday.

As of noon Wednesday, Central Maine Power’s website was reporting over 196,000 outages.

Kennebec County had the most with over 50,000.

CMP spokesman Jon Breed joined the WGAN Morning News Wednesday.

He said more than 1,400 crews were working to turn the lights back on.

That’s more than the number of crews that worked to restore service during the Ice Storm of 1998.
