LEBANON, Maine (WGAN) Investigators say a man who was found dead after a fire in Lebanon committed suicide.

Public safety spokesman Steve McCausland said the State Medical Examiner’s Office determined that James Avery died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 58-year-old was found dead Wednesday at his home on Shapleigh Road. The home burnt after a fire that officials say was set intentionally.

They believe Avery started the fire from inside using a flammable liquid before shooting himself.

The gun and gas container were both found nearby.
