AUGUSTA, Maine (AP)   Federal officials will be in northern New England this week to meet with the public about the possibility of searching for oil and gas on the Outer Continental Shelf.

The meetings are hosted by the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and are scheduled for Monday in Concord, New Hampshire, and on Wednesday in Augusta, Maine.

The meetings follow up on an executive order from April 2017 by President Donald Trump entitled “Implementing an America-First Offshore Energy Strategy.”

The proposal has attracted resistance from environmental activists and some members of government. The Maine House of Representatives passed a resolution calling on President Donald Trump to leave Maine out of offshore oil and gas drilling last month.
